HCG (Chorionic Gonadotropin)
Definition: A peptide hormone that occurs naturally in humans, especially in pregnant women, where it is produced by the chorionic gland.
Structure: Consists of two subunits, alpha and beta, of which the beta subunit is specific for HCG.
Medical Use:
In pregnancy: HCG is used in pregnancy tests as a marker for the presence of pregnancy.
Infertility treatment: HCG is used in some cases of infertility treatment in women and men.
In Bodybuilding:
Post Cycle Therapy (PCT): In bodybuilding, HCG is used during therapy after a cycle of anabolic steroids. It aims to restore testicular activity and natural testosterone production after the use of substances that may inhibit this production.
